Men Being Real Weekend Workshop #115
Time & Location
About the Event
The Men Being Real Weekend is led by an experienced Leadership Team, highly skilled in working with men. They have been part of the ongoing development of the Men Being Real model.
The course has been running since 1991 and is repeated at 3 monthly intervals in Auckland with the first course running in March and the last in November.
Each workshop usually attracts between 25 and 35 participants.Personal Growth
Men Being Real is useful for men of all ages at beginning, intermediate or advanced levels of personal growth experience.
Men Being Real has proved to be a safe place for men from diverse ethnic or religious backgrounds and sexual identities or orientation to do their work.Experiential Learning
There is no note taking on the weekend – the Men Being Real workshop is not a seminar. The learning is experiential which means it is based on participating in and reflecting on experiences and communicating with each other, rather than lectures and information given by ‘experts’.
The course is non-residential, runs into the evenings and has a follow-up evening. The programme is well balanced and fun as well as challenging. The longer hours of the course allows time for men to get beyond their old patterns of relating to themselves and others. The Men Being Real workshop is a structured learning programme aiming to provide a safe place for men to explore these and many other issues.Ongoing Personal Growth and Support
After completing the course, participants are encouraged to form or join ongoing support groups. We found that regular participation in a men’s group is the best way to anchor in the insights and personal changes that occur over the workshop weekend and make them a permanent part of your daily life. Back up support and referral is available and further workshops are offered from time to time on specific themes.
The Men Being Real workshop also acts as the gateway experience into the Essentially Men network – a community of men who have all completed the programme and who strengthen their learning and personal development by taking part in events from the Essentially Men calendar.
